  Requiem for the Dream:  The Assault on Private Property in America

Ever since the blatantly apocryphal 2005 U.S. Supreme Court ruling, “Kelo v New London” (where the city of New London, Connecticut, had taken private land by eminent domain and sold it to a private corporation) most Americans have become aware that the constitutional protection of private property rights is being eroded. What most people do not understand is that there is a more insidious threat to private property ownership than quasi-constitutional eminent domain takings, the “regulatory taking” of private property and the socio-political strategy behind it: “U.N. Agenda 21”.  This strategy manifests itself in extreme land use regulation, government central planning through growth management acts, buffers, “Smart Growth”, and a myriad of so called sustainable living & green development practices.   Our six-hour workshop focuses on the regulatory threat to property rights. With five very knowledgeable speakers, two of whom are nationally prominent and have politically disparate backgrounds, these classes will give a fairly comprehensive overview of the political forces at work, and the mechanisms which they utilize to deprive people of their property rights. Two scientists, an economist, an experienced forensic real estate appraiser, and a lawyer with a science degree (Ph.D. in fluvial geomorphology) will guide you through the process by which the various government agencies have been gradually increasing government control of private property while simultaneously eroding the owner’s rights.
