If you have a home, you may not soon if the Washington State legislative majority party has their way.

If you do not yet own a home, the Washington State legislative majority party will make it much more difficult for you to save to have a home.

Proposed Taxes (March 26, 2025)

Washington State proposes $5B-$8B in new taxes:

• Fuel: +6¢ (Senate) or +9¢ (House)/gallon, indexed; $250M-$300M/year.
• House Bills: Capital gains (7%), wealth (0.8%), property cap (1% to 3%), B&O surcharge, fees; $3B-$5B/year.
• Senate: 1% intangibles, payroll tax; $1.7B/year.

Lady Justice has failed the citizens of Washington state with a ruling that overturns Initiative 2066 an initiative that would serve well all citizens in the state.  But never fear this lady will not rest on her laurels, there will be much more work for her to do as challenges to a widely criticized superior court judge's ruling are in the works.

The State Legislative Democrats have decided how they will fund the never ending solutions they propose and promulgate with your dollars.

The revenue proposal they have released inclules:

Increasing the property tax cap

A 5% payroll tax on payroll expenses above $176,100 per year for companies with $7 million or more in payroll expenses

A wealth tax on individuals with wealth above $50 million

A state sales tax reduction from 6.5% to 6%

Elimination of 20 tax exemptions

The expectation is that this will create revenue of about 6 billion of the $12 billion needed to balance the budget.  Please tell us again how this will make the wealthy pay for state government on behalf of the ordinary wage earning citizen.  Looks like it may be a case of trickle down poverty theory.

The insanity in Olympia where the majority rules has begun to waver with cut off for bill progress having gone through 2 iterations.  What had begun with 2140 bils filed, had gone to 1154 after the first cut off (policy) and now has dwindled to 730 after yesterdays 2nd cut off day.  Probably 730 would be a better start than 2140, but so much of bill writing is of virtue signalling it is painstaking to wait and see what is really wanted.

HB 1217 Improving housing stability for tenants subject to the residential landlord-tenant act and the manufactured/mobile home landlord-tenant act by limiting rent and fee increases, requiring notice of rent and fee increases, limiting fees and deposits, establishing a landlord resource center and associated services, authorizing tenant lease termination, creating parity between lease types, and providing for attorney general enforcement.
